American University of Business and Social Sciences Awards Honorary Doctorate to Kumaran Arumugam
The American University of Business and Social Sciences (AUBSS) is thrilled to announce the awarding of the Doctor of Education in Adaptive Physical Education (Honoris Causa) to Kumaran Arumugam. This prestigious recognition acknowledges his remarkable contributions to the field of physical education, particularly for individuals with disabilities in Singapore.
Since 2012, Mr. Arumugam has been a dedicated advocate for children with special needs, beginning his journey as a sports coach and physical education teacher. His commitment to enhancing educational practices and opportunities for all students has resulted in several strategic leadership roles, including positions as Assistant Head of Department and Head of Department in various educational institutions.
Mr. Arumugam is distinguished not only for his leadership but also for his successful initiatives, such as securing a shoe sponsorship for 200 low-income students and launching programs that provide opportunities for para-athletes. His recent collaboration with the Singapore Disability Sports Council led to the creation of the GoalBall29 program, designed to prepare athletes for the ASEAN Para Games in 2029.
His efforts have garnered multiple awards, including the Global Recognition Award in Special Education and the People’s Choice Community Changemaker of the Year. Kumaran’s achievements reflect a deep commitment to promoting inclusive education and sports.
As he embarks on further educational pursuits, including a Master of Arts in Education with Special Education and a Doctorate in Education, Mr. Arumugam aspires to inspire future educators and foster continued developments in the special needs sector.
